A recent study conducted by Life Happens recently posed this question, with an interesting twist – which fictional character needs more life insurance?

The choices were as follows: Homer Simpson, James Bond, Modern Family’s Phil Dunphy, The Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen, Tony Stark/Iron Man, and Claire Underwood from House of Cards. Who would you choose? What criteria did you just think of to evaluate who would need life insurance the most?

If you chose James Bond, you’re one of many – and you’d be wrong.  More than a third of respondents  (34%) in the study chose James Bond, twice as many times as Homer Simpson and five times as many as Phil Dunphy.  Why?

You may think that James Bond needs life insurance because of his dangerous lifestyle but if you chose James Bond, you may not truly understand the point of life insurance.

Life insurance is arguably most important for heads of families – people whose death would leave loved ones struggling financially to pay for mortgages, college, etc.  Life insurance is like a final love letter to your family members, because it takes care of them after you’re gone.   Modern Family’s Phil Dunphy was only selected by 6%, even though as the primary breadwinner for his family, he probably needs the life insurance the most, along with Homer Simpson.  Especially once children are introduced to the mix, life insurance becomes even more crucial since the approximate cost of raising a child is approximately $304,480.
